Crystal Dynamics and Square-Enix faced a tough task trying to convince gamers that Lara Croft was worth another shot. Previous Tomb Raider titles shifted back and forth between the original premise, an “edgier” style and more plot-focused mechanics.
The upcoming 2013 Tomb Raider “reboot” aims to bring the experience to an open-world setting and focus primarily on Lara Croft, that too a more younger version than we’ve seen till now.
Global brand manager Karl Stewart in a recent interview stated:
When we first started looking at where we wanted to take things in late 2008 we had that idea of going back to the very beginning and telling that story.
The “attempted rape” controversy didn’t really swing things in favour of the developer, but they’re definitely going for a more intimate feel
It’s about the person and the experience that she’s going through. That’s what immerses you in the story and it makes it easier for us to tell that kind of story because of the intimate nature of the gameplay.

Wargames: European Escalation was developed for PC by Eugen Systems and released earlier this year. As a real-time strategy game set in Europe during the Cold War, the game garnered a surprising amount of positive reviews from critics.
To capitalize on it’s success, a new free DLC package dubbed “Conquest” has thus been announced, along with with a 50% discount for the game on Steam till July 9th.
“Conquest” is more than just a namesake – it’s one of the new multiplayer modes that features 7 new maps. It features numerous new control zones, and can be played against the AI as well as online.
Meanwhile, Siege mode gets two new maps as Destruction and Conquest feature the newly-designed “Mecklenburg” map.
The DLC also brings about various improvements in the gameplay. Some of them include better visibility of players waiting for a ranked game, better clarity in options during game creation, and of course, unit balancing.

Sega has announced a HD remake for Nights into dreams, and before you wonder what is that, the game originally came out on the SEGA Saturn in 1996. It’s a platformer and the HD remake includes improved HD graphics and a 16:9 aspect ratio, as well as added support for leaderboards, trophies, and achievements.
“The SEGA Saturn offered many unique gaming experiences, and NiGHTS into dreams… stands out as one of the most recognizable titles that found a home on the system,” said Chris Olson, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA.
“We’ve gotten a lot of requests about this game over the years, and are very happy to be able to give both former Saturn owners and new players a chance to play it in its most beautiful form to date this fall.”

Blizzard has mentioned that you will be soon able to trade commodities in the Diablo 3 real money auction house. Community manager kaivax has posted that gold trading will be enabled later and won’t be included in the current update.
“The ability to trade gold as a commodity won’t be included in this initial update, but we hope to enable it in the near future. Keep an eye on this thread
This update comes at a time when Blizzard is trying to retain the players after having publicly admitted that the game does not have enough end-game content as they would have liked.
“We recognize that the item hunt is just not enough for a long-term sustainable end-game,” Blizzard community manager Bashiok wrote on Battle.net.
“There are still tons of people playing every day and week, and playing a lot, but eventually they’re going to run out of stuff to do (if they haven’t already). Killing enemies and finding items is a lot of fun, and we think we have a lot of the systems surrounding that right, or at least on the right path with a few corrections and tweaks.”
These commodities will soon be available in the real-money auction house:

Sega has just confirmed some titles that will be playable at this year’s Comic -on. And they’re none other than Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines.
It’s exciting because the former comes from a strong pedigree (that many thought wouldn’t work), while the latter has had a long development cycle leading it. Of course, the fact that Gearbox Software, the mad minds behind Borderlands, are in charge means a lot for this shooter.
Sega will feature Danica Patrick’s custom No. 7 Sonic the Hedgehog/GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, fielded by JR Motorsports for promoting Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
But that’s not the best part. Concept designer and visual futurist Syd Mead will be signing limited prints concept art for the USS Sulaco, seen in the movie Aliens and featured in Colonial Marines.
Dark Horse, in collaboration with Sega, will be giving away an exclusive free Aliens: Colonial Marines comic during the Con. To top it off, an original 12 foot Alien Queen prop used from Aliens will be present, courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp.

Supermassive’s Until Dawn is finally available on PS4 and has received some good critical acclaim up till now. However, users who pre-ordered the game through PSN are reporting some issues. According to Redditand Sony’s community page, users are reporting an error message that says “128 days until available”, which is odd since the game is already out.
For its part, Sony support is already on the case. “Our store team is currently investigating the issue. We’ll update the thread once we receive an update.”
The error apparently arises for those pre-ordered Until Dawn through PSN before it faced a delay into August. It really shouldn’t take long for Sony to resolve the issue so stay tuned for more information in the meantime and don’t panic.
For those who have gotten their hands on the game, what are your thoughts and how are you finding it? Let us know in the comments below.

Bungie’s lag-tastic week-long PvP event has returned to Destiny with the Iron Banner. Given that The Taken King, the next major expansion for Destiny, will be out in the next few weeks and effectively negating all previously earned Legendaries, is there much use to playing Iron Banner (which is often fraught with lag issues, matchmaking and an overabundance of Thorns)?
Regardless, it’s here until next week’s reset. Lord Saladin returns withIron Breed Boots for Hunters/Warlocks and Iron Breed Greaves for Titans at rank 3 of Iron Banner Standing. The Iron Breed Mask (Hunter), Iron Breed Hood (Warlock) and Iron Breed Great Helm (Titan) at rank 4.
In terms of weapons, there’s Felwinter’s Lie at rank 4 and Silimar’s Wrath at rank 5. If you want to wreck in Crucible before all the weapon changes, then you might want to grind for the Felwinter’s Lie, especially since it has a decent perk roll with Aggressive Ballistics, Shot Package and Kneepads.
Thoughts on this week’s Iron Banner? Let us know in the comments. In the meantime, feel free to check out the Unofficial Rules of Iron Banner.

Survarium is a free-to-play MMO made by the STALKER developers, whose previous project STALKER 2 didn’t get the green signal. However, we have four new shots from their new game which looks fantastic, and is still work in progress. These screenshots are taken from Rudyna location in the game.
“The stills were made based on an early build of the game and do not represent the final quality of the project,” wrote Vostok Games on their blog. We do not have a release date for this game yet, but it should be headed for the PC next year.

Star Wars 1313 took a lot of people by surprise at E3, but then again, it is a LucasArts game. And if the Force Unleashed has taught us anything, it’s that LucasArts simply cannot be trusted sometimes.
However, creative director Dominic Robilliard believes there’s more to the game than just the cut-scenes. He actually makes it clearthat cutscenes can’t differ from actual gameplay to such a large degree.
You can’t have your cutscenes looking better or worse than the visuals in-game, because that would completely break it, and make you put the pad down. From a gamer’s perspective, when you see those trailers, if the game doesn’t match it’s an instant point of frustration. You’ve got to be consistent all the way through.
Of course, it’s great to see a developer taking the effort to keep the experience consistent. However, how well this will translates into a fun game remains to be seen.

The original Darksiders seemed to come out of nowhere at the start of 2010, taking us all by surprise in the usually dormant month of January. It wasn’t exactly a perfect game, but it showed how fresh a new IP could be, and it was easily good enough to warrant a sequel that, in case you haven’t had your ear to the ground over the past few months, is getting a release around mid-August. With developer Vigil Games now a bit older and wiser, Darksiders 2 will hopefully round off the corners of its predecessor and, should it accomplish such a feat, there’s no reason why it couldn’t be the action adventure game of the year for 2012. How could it be considered so, I hear you ask? Read on for the six big reasons below.
It’s a sequel
Whilst I normally deride sequels as unimaginative ways for publishers to milk more money out of existing IPs, Darksiders is one of the few cases where a sequel actually seems like a good idea. Whilst the game had an interesting design and tried and tested gameplay mechanics, there were moments when various elements of the gameplay, world and character design seemed a bit confused, an understandable blemish for a game so rich and vast. With Darksiders 2, it seems logical to assume that Vigil Games will be comfortable enough with the engine and game world to really hit the nail on the head. Should they do this, it could be even better than the original, and that kind of heightened quality would surely make it a GOTY contender?
A deeper story
The original Darksiders sported an intriguing concept, but the minute to minute story elements sometimes left a little to be desired. It was generally well handled, but a few slow moments belied an otherwise well paced scenario. Number two sounds a bit more engaging by comparison, with main protagonist Death attempting to clear War’s name in events that run parallel with the plot of the original. It should be a deeper tale that is more intricately interwoven with the game world, two awesome storytelling positives that should add another string to Darksiders 2’s bow.
It covers all formats
That’s right Wii U, we still care about you… Sort of.
An action adventure game like Darksiders on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is one thing, but to launch Darksiders 2 also as an early release for the Wii U is another thing altogether. On a system that so far generally seems devoid of really hardcore titles, Darksiders 2 could offer a real boost to early Wii U sales and it could be an oasis in an otherwise dry Christmas period for the hardcore gamer who wants to continue supporting Nintendo.

In these straightened times, buying a gaming peripheral can be a big decision and a sizeable investment. But with a summer lull for big game releases, there’s no reason what money you do have should be burning a hole in your pocket – especially when Gioteck’s EX-05 headset will only enhance your gaming experience. The multi platform version is available at a slight premium but means it’s usable with the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, offering a perfect accompaniment for the serious gamer.
For those of us loving nothing more than a lengthy gaming session, the EX-05 headset looks the business and is available as a substantial 5-metre wired version (reviewed here) or with a 2.4GHz wireless transmitter – either way, giving you ample range for mid-game snack runs!
The build quality of the EX-05 headset is superb
Inside the box lurks the headset, control box and two cables – one with RCA connectors and a USB, as well as another shorter lead that connects to the controller when using it with Xbox for voice chat. The instructions clearly outline how you can plug these RCA cables into your display but an additional – and inexpensive – Xbox HDMI AV adaptor is needed if you want to connect the headset direct to your console. It’s much the same set up on PS3, while using the EX-05 with the PC only requires the USB to be plugged in. Painless and quick.
The control box features four main elements: Game Volume, Voice Volume, a PS3/Xbox toggle and a mute switch, linked to an indicator light that shows when it’s activated.
The build quality of the headphones is suitably sturdy, ensuring that these can withstand plenty of abuse. Although initially seeming slightly unwieldy compared with other slimmer headsets currently available, the height adjustable earcups encapsulate your ears perfectly and isolate all external noise to provide a very pleasant (albeit sweaty) experience. The cushioned ear cups will no doubt ensure that your eyes will ache long before your ears after a lengthy gaming session. It may look substantial but the headset is nice and lightweight; the mesh camo headband sports a metal frame and, despite its rigidity and lack of padding is surprisingly comfy.
The mesh headband is very comfortable and the ear cups isolate external noise
The EX-05 also boasts 40mm speakers capable of producing good treble and bass. In fact, ramp the volume up on these bad boys and you’ll be blown away. Topping the unit off is a flexible noise isolating microphone boom that can be positioned according to individual preference and during our playtests, received very favourable reports from those on the other end of the conversation. They all commented on crystal clear speech and said it was a great improvement on the standard headset bundled with my 360.
The military styling will make you feel right at home as you unload your MK14 into your Modern Warfare buddies. Footsteps, gunshots and even the rustling of leaves are clearly audible with these babies on your head – and it certainly enhances your experience. But don’t think the headset is only suited to explosives and gunfire.. an extensive playthrough of FIFA 12 had us hearing crowd chants like never before. While the menu music was more vivid and rich than when we’d relied on our TV speakers, even subtle sounds like the ball striking the crossbar helped to immerse us in the game. We tried playing The Walking Dead, Dead Island and Left 4 Dead 2 and the groans, shuffles and screams were crystal clear through the EX-05s and really heightened the experience… so much so, you’ll be playing with the lights on!
These aren’t the most compact headsets available; you’ll feel like a tank driver!
We did find, however, that the game volume can easily overpower voice chat, which meant we had to get the balance just right if we wanted to talk to friends. The lack of any form of voice monitoring offered by some rival headsets means you’re unable to gauge how loud you’re speaking, which may prove an irritant to others in the room.
Besides these minor issues, we can’t rate these highly enough. The sound clarity and build quality are fantastic and, unlike many of its competitors, the Gioteck EX-05 is reasonably priced too and won’t break the bank. For pretty much the price of a new game (around £40 in the UK) this is a peripheral that will certainly augment your gameplay.
Breathable micro-fibre ear cups Super lightweight headband Military styling Powered by USB 40mm high quality stereo drivers Flexible microphone arm Noise isolating microphone Ergonomic controls – voice and game sound controlFor more details, visit the official website.
This headset was reviewed on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
THE GOOD
Simple to set up and comfortable to wear - even for long gaming sessions, these provide some fantastic audio. Friends were wowed by the crystal clear voice chat. Surprisingly lightweight with deep ear cups that really do cut out external noise
THE BAD
Slightly unwieldy and not as aesthetically pleasing as some of the other headsets currently on the market. The wired version has perhaps a little too much cabling. No voice monitoring. Additional cable needed to plug direcly into Xbox 360
Final Verdict
Gioteck's EX-05 multi-format headsets are an inexpensive purchase for any gamer - and perfect if you own several platforms. Will make you want to replay your games library as you'll start to notice sounds you never heard before

This is a game journal for Empires of the Smoky Skies, a steampunk scenario for the Civilization 5: Gods and Kings expansion. My name’s Robert Green, and each week I’ll write a new journal for Gaming Bolt. I call it Campfire Gaming.
Welcome to the world of tomorrow!
Step right up and witness the marvels of progress. I beg you please, put down your sword. And pick up a machine gun! Get off your high horse. Get in a tank instead! Need to kill someone? How about 10,000 people? Buy a Flying Fortress!
This, my dear friends, is progress. This is Civilization 5: Empires of the Smoky Skies!
Empires of the Smoky Skies introduces a new tech tree, new factions, and new units, all of the steampunk variety. I’ll be on Prince difficulty (which is the default), and I’ve never played this scenario before. Actually, I’ve never played any Civ scenario before. This is the first that really caught my attention.
There’s only five factions to choose from, but all of them are unique to the scenario. I decide to be Cyrus Rotheram, leader of the Eruch Empire, because their airships get +2 movement and they build something called the aerodome. Both of these things sound awesome because airships are awesome. With this bonus in mind, my self-assigned goal is to build a massive fleet of airships and rule the smoky skies.
The brass means it’s steampunk.
I start out with 3 settlers, a couple of scouts, and a couple of land ironclads, which are exactly what they sound like. They’re ironclad ships, except, you know, on land. With wheels. Which is awesome. They’re essentially tanks but bigger. I tell one settler to start a city right where he stands. This will be the capital of the Eruch Empire, creatively named Eruch.
I want to try out the new steampunk units, so I’m going for a military powerhouse. Empires of the Smoky Skies has somewhat different victory conditions than regular Civilization. Instead of just acheiving one of several possible roads to victory, Empires of the Smoky Skies requires you to get and hold 3 titles at the same time for 5 turns. These titles include having the most money, having the most advanced weaponry, having the most culture, having a city with the most production, and having the most world and national wonders.
From the very beginning I send my land ironclads out looking for trouble. They find the city/states of Capetown and Hong Kong. That’ll do. In the meantime, I’ve sent one settler north and one south, giving me three cities for the Eruch Empire. I don’t plan on building anymore. Other cities will be gained through conquest.
I get my first social policies and decide it’s time for us to go communist. I’m going to build a production and scientific powerhouse, then I’ll be able to quickly create the best military units available. I also adopt a planned economy to make my factories better.
I research analog computation. It allows us to build the science and production boosting Difference Engine. Build a Difference Engine in every city and you can build the Analytical Engine national wonder. It counts as a wonder for victory conditions, and greatly increases science and production further still. Once I complete that and build a factory in every city, my economic war machine should be ready for battle. Phew. That was exhausting just to describe.
I have a lot of work to do.
The problem with this approach is that in order to get my enemies to bleed blood my empire will have to bleed money. My economy is failing and I’ll be out of gold in just a few turns, which would be quite embarrassing seeing how the game really just started. To make matters worse, compared to the rest of the civilized world my citizens are miserable.
A good day for an Eruch Empire citizen is a day where he doesn’t kill himself.
Yikes. Also, notice at the top that I only have 65 gold but I lose 14 every turn. I’m no economist, but if this pattern keeps up I’m pretty sure I’ll be bankrupt very soon. If I can get my production and science up early, I can worry about the rest later. Will I develop an unstoppable warmachine, or bankrupt myself in the process? It’s the classic communist dilemma.
As much as I want to take down Capetown, I’m just not ready. I find some nearby barbarians southwest of there that give me an excellent opportunity to test my steamy muscle.
The heroic Eruch army bravely charged the enemy archers with tanks and machine guns.
As I’m civilizing the enemy archers with bullets, I get a message from Capetown that changes everything. Apparently the barbarians I’m currently murdering have been a thorn in Capetown’s side for too long, and they’ll ally with anyone who takes them out. I decide that I will be that anyone.
Allying with Capetown will give me their resources without actually having to take them over. At the same time, one of my spies has rigged the elections in the nearby city/state of Hong Kong. The new puppet leader immediately forms an alliance with me, and my formerly militaristic approach is turning sickeningly diplomatic.
I defeat the barbarian enemies of Capetown with relative ease, and between Capetown and Hong Kong an abundance of luxury goods pours into my empire. These luxury goods distract my citizens from their dreary lives of factory work and arms assembly. The happiness of my empire is starting to climb, and so is my economy. Allying with Capetown and Hong Kong has fixed a lot of my major issues, allowing me to focus on the production and science that will make my military the envy of the civilized world.
The only problem now is I still don’t have anyone to shoot. And I was really hoping to shoot someone.
The victory conditions open up throughout the game as people discover new technologies. The first victory condition, building the most sophisticated military machines, goes to one of my opponents. Titles can be lost and gained even after initially given though, so if I ever do build more than him the title will go to me. The current man with the biggest army is my neighbor to the direct south. I’m sure this won’t cause future problems.
Finally, the moment I’ve been waiting for arrives. My empire finishes researching airships and we enter the cleverly named Airship Era.
Yet I can’t build a single ship. It turns out my glorious airship fleet will need a lot of a resource I don’t have. Until I acquire it, I’ll only have a glorious pile of scrap metal. The resource is called aetherium, and I take a look at the world map to see if there’s any in my empire.
There isn’t.
So I do what any 19th Century empire does in situations where they don’t have something they want. I bully it away from someone smaller than me.
There’s a huge cache of 12 aetherium nearby. It belongs to the city/state of Ragusa, just southwest of the Eruch Empire. It’s a bit of a catch 22. I need aetherium to build my deadly fleet, but I need my deadly fleet to get aetherium. I’ll have to settle on ground forces and prepare for an amphibious assault.
You can see my southern city of Dortmund at the top of the map, and Ragusa in the center of the map southeast of my empire. The plan is a grand naval invasion that will move across the huge gulf between us and them. As I begin to make preperations, it becomes clear that I’m running out of time.
Another title is handed out, and it’s not to me. One of my rivals has the most sophisticated army, and another has more wonders than anyone else. I have nothing, and no time to waste on this invasion. I’m still confident my slow economy building will pay off in the long run, but only if this invasion goes well.
The great engineer Leonardo da Vinci is born in my empire, a sign that my production is worthwhile after all. I have him immediately build a world wonder to get myself back in the race. He completes the Pentagon, allowing me to upgrade my units at a much cheaper price.
A golden age dawns at the beginning of the invasion. I mean this quite literally.
Things are turning around. My people are happy, or at least no longer suffering from chronic depression. We’re making a lot of money, and I think production and science are going well. The invasion to make my sky fleet of doom a reality is underway. This will either be our finest hour or a humiliating defeat. Place your bets now.
The army lands on the enemy shores and quickly surrounds the city of Nagusa. We bombard it with long-range artillery as the land ironclad blasts away up close. Soon my bolt-action rifle wielding infantry occupy the city of Nagusa. The victory was swift and desisive. The war against this city/state is already over and I am the victor.
To the victor go the spoils.
I now have 22 aetherium (there were 12 in Nagusa, and I have a special ability that doubles my strategic resources). That’s essentially an endless supply. In celebration of this victory against the evil freedom hating Nagusa, I complete the Statue of Liberty in my capital. This gives me three wonders right when a new title opens up: city with the highest production rate. Yes, it’s my capital.
I’ve gone from 0 to 2 titles just like that. One more and I win.
I’ve made a huge power play in just a few short turns, and the other players aren’t happy about it. Three of my four opponents denounce me immediately. My empire has become a gigantic target, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been itching for war this whole time. I’m still last as far as happiness and culture, but those things were never my goals.
With a monster production and very good science I begin the construction of the airship fleet and immediately settle on a target. I’m going to declare war on Dalmace, the only nation with a better army than mine. If I can destroy their units while keeping my losses to a minimum, then I’ll secure the title for best military and victory will be mine. Dalmace is also the only nation that hasn’t denounced me. Declaring war on them will mean every foreign power hates my guts.
It’ll be the Eruch Empire vs the world.

Ever since the release of World Of Warcraft back in 2004 the MMO Genre has been starting to bloom. The MMO market has been getting quite saturated for the past few years with titles like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, Rift, Lord of the Rings Online, and Dungeon of Dragons Online., and Aion. However, most of the titles listed above are going the free-to-play route with micro-transactions due to a huge loss of subscribers.
2012 is shaping up to be an amazing year for MMO players out there, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is releasing on September 25th 2012, and ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2 is right around the corner later this month. Rift is also getting it’s very first expansion later this fall. Rift is also one of the survivors among other MMOs, and it had one of the most smoothest launches in history of MMOs. Tera came out in May with astounding graphics, and state-of-the-art real time combat system that works very well, and is a lot of fun.
So what do each of these MMOs have to offer, and how are they different? Let’s take at each one, and see how they differ.
World of Warcraft is a huge game right now, it’s packing 3 expansions, and a forth one coming up in September. The game has changed in so many ways that I won’t be able to talk about it in this article. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria adds a new race, class, continent, and lot of new PvP content with new style battlegrounds, and 3 new raids for the raiding junkies straight on launch day. Blizzard is finally bringing back world bosses into the game, that many players have been asking for. For people who played at launch, this feature will be nostalgic due to the fact that world bosses have been missing for the last 2 expansions.
A new race is also joining along with the Horde, and Alliance, the Pandaren. Pandaren is the very first neutral race that let’s you pick which faction you want to join after you finish the main story quests for the Pandaren. This is the first time where the same race is going to be in both Horde, and Alliance. The Monk class is a brand new melee class that gives you many different ways to play, whether it be tanking, healing, or damaging.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is also adding Pet Battles. Pet Battles let your pet companions duke it out against other pets, aka Pokemon style. This feature just adds something new to the game, it’s not meant to benefit your character anyway, but rather just a fun activity to do.
One of other new features in this expansion are the account-wide-achievements, and account-wide-mounts. People who are achievement hunters can finally not worry about doing the same achievements again on their alternate characters, and the same goes for the mounts. This is a really nice feature for those who put in a lot of time, and effort into earning different achievements, and acquiring rare mounts. Look for the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria review sometime next month, for the in-depth verdict.
Rift is a fantastic game in my opinion, it’s beautiful, has a lot of exploration, it has a ton of content to do since launch, and raiding is a ton of fun. Rift launched last year in March 2011, and had one of the most smoothest, and successful MMO launches in history. Rift has 2 different factions, the Guardians, and the Defiant. Each faction has 3 different races which is is a total of 6, the Guardians have the Dwarves, High Elves, and Mathosians, while the Defiant have Eth, Bahmi, and Kelari.
One of the most unique features in Rift are the “Rift Events”, occasionally you will see different swirling circles on the map of the zone. Those swirling circles indicate rift events. When rifts open up they release creatures from different elemental planes, there are life rifts, death rifts, water rifts, air rifts, earth rifts, and fire rifts. In order to close a rift, you need to follow the objectives in the rift event, once all of the stages of the rift event are completed, you are rewarded with different currency loot that you can spend on gear, and of course you gain a good amount of experience.
Trion has been very good at keeping their customers busy with the game, there is just an enormous amount of stuff to do. I think one of my favorite features about Rift is after you hit level 50, you can still progress in Planar Attunement levels, and beef up your character past 50. This motivates the player to keep on questing, do dungeons, raids, dailies, and pvp to keep themselves up to date. The best part about leveling Planar Attunements is that it does not feel grindy, because everything you do lets you gain experience.
Rift: Storm Legion is the first expansion that is coming out sometime this Fall. Rift: Storm Legion add new souls to each of the 4 classes, level 60 player cap, some sort of player/guild housing, 3 new raids, bunch of new dungeons, and epic interactive world bosses. According to Trion, the expansion will be more than 3 times bigger than the current world, adding a whopping of 2 whole new continents, with a new hub city.
The expansion has been recently announced, therefore we don’t have that much information to give you, other than what’s know. It sounds like Trion is really passionate about this expansion, and have a lot of ambition going for it. All we can do now is wait, and see, Trion promised to everyone that new information will be released during Gamescom later this month.
Tera is one of the newest MMOs that launched in May 2012. This is mostly well known for it’s amazing real-time combat where precision, and aiming actually comes into play. Whether your playing a melee class, or ranged, the combat is very fun. One of the first things attracted me about Tera was the astounding graphics, it just looks beyond beautiful, this is defiantly the best looking MMO on the market right now hands-down. Graphics is smooth, no frame-rate issues, monster designs are fantastic, the dungeons, and outdoor scenery is just flat out gorgeous.
The questing in Tera is your typical run of the mill, kill this, get that, and so on. However, other games seem to break-down the questing a bit better, in Tera it feels like every quest is almost exactly the same, and that creates the feeling of a monotonous grind. However, the very first content patch is coming out sometime this month, adding the very first raid tier to the game, new skills for Warrior, and Lancers are being added, and the patch also adds in battlegrounds.
Overall, these games all have something unique to offer, but I don’t think every game is for everybody. They all have their qualities, and faults, no MMO is perfect. Pick, and choose, and have fun wherever you decided to take on your virtual adventures with yourself, and your friends.

According to a latest report by Eurogamer.cz, Mafia 3 is being produced for the PS4 and Xbox 720. Yes, the next-gen consoles of Sony and Microsoft. It appears that they are going to bypass the PS3 and Xbox 360 altogether which is a but weird considering the solid install base is helpful for game sales.
The game was originally in development for the current gen consoles but was pushed back to next-gen due to unmentioned reasons. We believe its probably because the project is too ambitious considering Mafia 2 was quite a good looking game.
It appears that the next-gen consoles will arrive in 2013 as the game is also slated to launch in 2013. Mafia was a PC franchise which was shifted to consoles this gen and it looks like it will stay that way for a long time.

In conversation with Official XBox Magazine, Star Wars 1313 creative director Dominic Robilliard offered his view on this violent video game trailer at E3 2012:
It was interesting seeing all of the ultra-violence at this year’s E3. I feel that responsibility escalates with the fidelity. When you can render characters that look like the ones in our game – and other games – you get to this realism level where you really don’t want to encourage that kind of thing. Seeing that kind of reaction from gamers… It may well be human nature, but you don’t want to put content out there that pushes those buttons.
Which fits very much in tone with a remark Sid Meier made many years ago about how violence in video games can only go so far beyond shock value.
But what is Star Wars 1313 if not a more violent, mature Star Wars game? VFX supervisor Kim Libreri stated.
It’s for adults, not for psychopaths.
Which, speaking as a psychopath, is disappointing.

Though the beginning of this week marks several big releases like Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Until Dawn, the previous week in the UK was fairly typical sales-wise. Gfk Chart-Track reported that LEGO Jurassic World was still the top selling title which minimal changes to the top ten.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently in second place and is fast approaching nearly two years in the top ten following its original release on Xbox 360 and PS3. Batman: Arkham is currently in third place, which is good news considering it’s also published by WB Interactive Entertainment. It was followed by Battlefield: Hardline at fourth and Minecraft: Xbox Edition at fifth place.
FIFA 15, Minecraft: PlayStation Edition, Dying Light, The Elder Scrolls Online and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare round the remaining top ten. Stay tuned in the following week and see which games, be it Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or Until Dawn, debut on top in the UK.

Eidos president Ian Livingstone has revealed that people still want a single-player experience, and even though there are various ways to deliver cheaper content, it’s not going to disappear overnight.
“I think people still want a single player experience,” Livingstone said in an interview with MCV. “The games industry is diversifying and is making new ways of delivering, new ways of playing games. One is certainly not totally at the expense of each other, and I think games as a product and as a service can live happily alongside each other for a long time to come,” he said.
“A game like Tomb Raider has historically been a graphically intensive single player experience, and that’s not simply going to disappear overnight. What we’re seeing is an emergence and a growth in the digital area and a new consumer which has come along (the casual gamer, which has almost reached ascendancy), but niche gamers are still going to be here and want content delivered specifically for them.”
He mentioned that content has to be created which is relevant to the platform, and a game like Lara Croft obviously suits the consoles.
“You’ve got to create a game that’s relevant to the platform on which it’s delivered, therefore the graphic-rich interactive experience of console Lara [Croft] is inevitably going to be different to the experience that you’d expect on a mobile device,” he said.

Enlighten is a software created by Geomerics, a lighting technology company. The software received the Develop award 2012 and the upgrades will be shown off in ARM booth (550) at Siggraph 2012.
The software has now Android and iOS support allowing developers to create lightweight lighting effects such as global illumination and area light on these platforms.
Dr. Chris Doran, founder of Geomerics, commented: “Sometimes we have to remind ourselves just how astonishing it is to see global illumination computed in real-time on a tablet or phone – it wasn’t that long ago that people were telling me this was impossible on high-end hardware!”
“Authoring and productivity are massively important to us at Geomerics,” said CEO Gary Lewis. “We have all been working towards the goal of pushing as much of the creation process into the real-time engine, so that content creators are working with the game as it will finally appear. Enlighten is a big part of this story, providing fully dynamic updates to global illumination.
“Initially, it was only the large studios that could take advantage of this technology, but our work with Maya, and other improvements, now make it easier for all studios to use Enlighten.”

Had a “WTF” look on your face when you clicked this title, didn’t you? Allegorithmic is the leading firm in texturing technology, or so they say. And they have announced that Battlestar Galactica will incorporate this technology. The game was built in Unity 3D for browser and such an enhancement improves the game a lot.
It’s said to be optimized for each player’s computer.

“Substance enables us to produce high-quality art without creating sizing issues. Since we can easily scale assets down from megabytes to kilobytes, we can use higher-res textures all while still minimizing download times for players in the game.”
Attendees at the upcoming Unite 2012 developer conference in Amsterdam (Aug. 22-25) will have the opportunity to learn more about Substance in two scheduled program sessions: “Faster, Better and Lighter Textures with Substance Designer 3 (R.I.P. In an interview with VG247, FIFA 13 developer EA Canada goes beyond mere tutorial and muck-about mode, but caters to players of all skill levels and challenging them in the process.
Nick Channon, EA Canada producer, talked about how FIFA 13’s improved Player Impact Engine, first introduced in FIFA 12, has allowed additional physical objects to be played in the arena, “We’ve done Skill Games around having the Impact Engine and our physics allows us to have objects in the world that the ball would react to. So Skill Games was driven by that technology.
“For us, Skill Games were two-fold: One, we brought in an interactive tutorial to teach players the new defending mechanic and the feedback we got from that was, ‘That was great, but why didn’t you teach me the fundamentals of passing and shooting?’”
“We thought ‘OK, this is something we need to look at’, so yes, one reason for Skill Games was to build those fundamentals, and to teach everyone all the core parts of our game. But it was also to create Skill Games that more hardcore football fans would find a real challenge as well.”
“Every discipline has four levels and they get progressively harder and the later ones are made specifically to be very hard. The last one is sort of a skill challenge and you basically get rated on how well you do and how high your scores is, so anyone can finish it, but it’s about getting those high scores.”
FIFA 13’s skill games will put your abilities to the test when the game releases on 28th September, on every format from Xbox 360 to sandwich toaster.

Codemasters has revealed a new trailer and some fantastic screenshots for Dirt 3 which you can check out below. The game will be released in 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
“GRID’s back and we’re going to make street, track and road racing exciting again,” said Clive Moody, Executive Producer. “The core design philosophy for GRID 2 is that we treat the race as a character, not a consequence of simply putting cars on tracks. Everything that goes into the game impacts on that second-to-second, in the moment, blockbuster drama – the feel and personality of the race.”
“We’re pushing boundaries once again with what can be accomplished in the genre via new tools, technology and innovations. In single-player, split-screen and online, the next-generation of the EGO Game Technology Platform will power graphics, AI, handling and damage advancements that will immerse players in the racing experience like never before. Like its predecessor, GRID 2 will put the sheer thrill and adrenaline rush of the race at the heart of the experience. It’s what we call Total Race Day Immersion.”
Check out the screenshots below.
